Work Package 1
Establishing Collaborative Structures for Town Development
Work Package 1 is centred around the establishment and development of ‘Partneriaeth Aber’. This initiative is designed to unite various stakeholders and representatives in a joint effort to facilitate the regeneration of Aberystwyth.
Purpose of ‘Partneriaeth Aber’ within Prosiect Aber
The formation of ‘Partneriaeth Aber’ is integral to Prosiect Aber. It provides a structured approach for stakeholder collaboration, ensuring comprehensive planning and implementation. The partnership aims to amalgamate diverse expertise and insights for the collective benefit of the town’s development.
WP1.1 – Establish and Develop ‘Partneriaeth Aber’
The objective within this package is the creation of the ‘Partneriaeth Aber’ board. This involves the identification and appointment of relevant stakeholders and representatives. Two board meetings are planned to establish the foundation for ongoing collaboration. This initiative is essential for aligning the project with the broader needs and goals of Aberystwyth, thereby facilitating a coordinated approach to town planning.

Work Package 2
Improving Aberystwyth’s Town Centre
Work Package 2 is about making Aberystwyth’s town centre better. This package focuses on understanding and improving empty properties, cleaning the town, and enhancing the appearance of empty shops. It’s about making the town centre a more attractive and welcoming place.
Why This Matters for Aberystwyth
This work package is important for making the town centre more appealing and lively. By focusing on these areas, we help create a town centre that everyone can enjoy and be proud of.
WP 2.1 – Property Database
The first task is creating a database of town centre commercial properties. This includes finding out who owns them. The goal is to identify which properties need attention first.
WP 2.2 – Town Cleaning Project
This project is about organising community litter picks. We’ll create a calendar and a list of people who want to help clean the town. It’s about working together to keep Aberystwyth clean.
WP 2.3 – Improving Look of Empty Properties
The aim here is to make the top five targeted empty properties look better. This will help improve the overall look of the town centre.

Work Package 3 deals with rethinking how Aberystwyth’s town centre can be used. This includes looking at how pedestrian areas might work and fit into the town.

WP 3.1 – Pedestrianisation Scoping & Feasibility Report
This project is about understanding if and how pedestrian areas could work in Aberystwyth. We’re commissioning a report to see if this is a good idea and how it might be done.
Supporting our Businesses & Local Economy
Work Package 4
Fostering Growth and Connectivity in Business
Work Package 4 focuses on supporting businesses in Aberystwyth, enhancing networking opportunities, and maximising the use of digital technology. This package aims to strengthen the local economy and foster business relationships.

WP 4.1 – Business Networking Events
This project involves arranging at least five networking events in Aberystwyth during 2024. These events are designed to connect businesses, share ideas, and create opportunities for collaboration.
WP 4.2 – Maximising the Use of Digital Technology
This project focuses on training individuals to utilise town WiFi footfall data and IoT effectively. The goal is to empower local businesses with digital tools to be smarter and make confident growth decisions.
Old Town Market and Events
Work Package 5
Enhancing Community Engagement through Markets and Events
Work Package 5 is about bringing life to Aberystwyth’s old town through markets and community events. This package aims to boost local engagement, enhance our understanding of ‘Cynefin’, improve the perception of events, and increase footfall in the area.

This work package is essential because it focuses on revitalising the old town area, making it a hub for community activities. By supporting local markets and events, we’re creating more vibrant and lively spaces for residents and visitors.
WP 5.1 – ‘Old Town’ Market
This project is about supporting the ‘Old Town’ market. The aim is to create a lively marketplace that attracts locals and visitors, showcasing local produce and crafts.
WP 5.2 – Community Events Package
The goal of this project is to enhance the quality of community events. By organising professional and engaging events, we aim to improve the community’s perception and enjoyment of these gatherings.
WP 5.3 – Enhanced Events Programme
This project focuses on developing a comprehensive programme of events. It aims to increase footfall during peak times, support the involvement of over 20 volunteers in events, and assist in organising at least five local events.

Work Package 6
Promoting Aberystwyth as a Premier Destination
Work Package 6 focuses on showcasing Aberystwyth as an attractive destination for visitors and locals alike. This package includes developing a town website and app, supporting hospitality staff, creating trail maps, and more projects to boost tourism and local engagement.

WP 6.1 – Town Website & App
This project is dedicated to developing a comprehensive bilingual website and app for Aberystwyth. These digital platforms will serve as a go-to resource for information about the town, its attractions, and events.
WP 6.2 – Porth Croeso Aber
‘Porth Croeso Aber’ focuses on supporting hospitality staff. It involves providing support to 15 local businesses and training 30 hospitality staff, aiming to elevate the overall visitor experience in Aberystwyth.
WP 6.3 – Trail Maps
The creation of trail maps is part of this package. These maps will guide visitors through Aberystwyth’s attractions, aiming to increase footfall during peak tourist seasons.
WP 6.4 – Passport Aberystwyth
This project is about developing ‘Passport Aberystwyth’, an engaging way for visitors and locals to explore and experience the town and wider area.
Smarter Aberystwyth
